SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Meredith field hockey delivered a stellar defensive performance, holding off Wittenberg for a 3-2 victory on the road on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Ohio.

Playing the first of two games in two days, the Avenging Angels began their fall break trip in style, rolling to a big lead and holding off the Tigers in the late going to preserve the victory.

Three different Angels scored the team's three goals, with two of them being assisted. Meredith scored all three of its goals across the second and third periods.

Maya Kirstein found a goal for the third time in the last four games, breaking the scoreless tie with the Angels' only unassisted goal, which came in the 18th minute.

The game stood still at 1-0 in favor of MC for over 20 minutes of game action, until the veteran duo of Megan Ingenito and Charlotte Dyer connected midway through the third quarter to double the Meredith lead as Ingenito found Dyer for her ninth goal of the season. Capitalizing on the momentum, the Avenging Angels continued to pour it on, as Alicia Hunter scored her first career goal just a few minutes later, as Dyer was on the giving end of this one.

Needing to preserve a 3-0 lead for just under 20 minutes, the Avenging Angels were up to the task, despite a fiurious rally from Wittenberg, which scored twice in the final quarter.

Shortly after their lead was reduced to one goal, the Avenging Angels had to clear a dangerous penalty corner from the Tigers, and then held the final moments of the game down a player due to a green card.

However, the defense held and the win was Meredith's, the team's third road victory of the season.

Up next, the Avenging Angels will be right back in action in Springfield, Ohio, battling Oberlin College in a neutral site battle set for tomorrow, October 19 at 1 p.m.
