Soccer Honors Eight Seniors, Battles Greensboro in Regular Season Home Finale

RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith soccer honored its eight seniors before battling Greensboro tough in a 1-0 loss at home on Saturday evening in Raleigh.

In the team's regular season home finale, the Avenging Angels got the evening started by recognizing the contributions of its senior class.

When the game got started, it was a defensive battle most of the way throughout, with neither side able to generate much headway offensively.

Meredith held a slim 6-5 shot advantage in the scoreless first half.

Midway through the second half, the Avenging Angels generated a chance as Rachel Ward broke through the defense. However, the Greensboro goalkeeper was in the right spot to make the save and keep the game scoreless.

From there, the Pride began to gain momentum, and eventually converted the game winner on a blast from outside the box from Isabella Kelly that hit off the bottom of the crossbar before falling into the back of the net.

With just over 17 minutes to try and gain the equalizer, the Avenging Angels were not able to find the goal they needed.

Up next, Meredith will play its regular season finale on the road, set for this Wednesday, October 28 at 2 p.m. against N.C. Wesleyan.
