RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith soccer battled Brevard tough in a 1-0 loss on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon in Raleigh.
The Tornados brought the rainy weather with them, and the Avenging Angels played the current USA South leaders even for much of the way. However, a goal in the 63rd minute by Brevard's Mikayla Rubin proved to be the difference.
With the rainy conditions, neither side was able to consistently generate opportunities.
Meredith did have a few good looks, but Brevard goalkeeper Abby Nunez was up to the task, with six saves.
Delaney Thompson was solid as well for Meredith in goal, making seven saves and allowing just the one goal, which was created on a beautiful pass to set up Rubin's goal.
Finding themselves trailing with just under 30 minutes to play, Meredith could not break past the stout back line of Brevard, which completed the shutout and moved to 4-0 in the USA South.
Up next, Meredith will be back in action at home, stepping out of conference to host JWU (NC) this Wednesday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
