Volleyball Delivers 3-0 Sweep in Rivalry Road Win at William Peace

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Meredith 3, William Peace 0
Records: Meredith, 15-3 (6-2 USA South); William Peace, 9-7 (4-3 USA South)

RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith volleyball outlasted crosstown rival William Peace in a clinical 3-0 road sweep on Wednesday night in Raleigh.

The Avenging Angels made the short road trip a quick one as well, dispatching the Pacers in all three hard-fought sets.

The three-set win marks the third straight set conference victory for the Avenging Angels this season.

Senior Caitlyn Russell delivered a fantastic all-around match, leading the team with 15 kills while also recording a season-high 14 digs for her third double-double of the season. She was also efficient, with a .348 hitting percentage in the winning effort.

Meredith was rock solid defensively, with three Angels reaching double figures in digs, headlined by Megan Murray with 20. Caroline Prease participated in all three sets, and totaled a season-best 11 digs.

Coming off a season-high 25 assists over the weekend against Pfeiffer, freshman setter Scarlet Griffin led the way again, this time adding 19 to help buoy the offensive attack.

Meredith faced adversity in the early going but quickly erased a first set deficit to take control of the set late to win 25-20.

The second set was back-and-forth from the beginning, with neither side able to separate. The Pacers held a small lead of 19-18 late in the set, but Meredith reeled off a 4-0 run, instigated by back-to-back kills from Russell, to take control of the set.

Looking to complete the sweep, the Avenging Angels kept the pedal down in the third set, once again taking control late. With the score tied at 14-all, Meredith used a 4-0 run to take an 18-14 advantage and led the rest of the way. Although William Peace cut its deficit to 23-22, Meredith responded with Elena Bostick's 11th kill of the match, followed by a service ace from freshman MarLee Dellinger to seal the victory.

Up next, Meredith will return home and look to extend its winning streak, hosting Brevard this Friday, October 9 at 2 p.m.
