Tennis Battles Randolph in Nonconference Matchup

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Meredith College Avenging Angels tennis team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia on Wednesday afternoon for a nonconference matchup against the Randolph College WildCats. Facing a strong Randolph squad currently ranked second in the ODAC standings, Meredith fell 7-0. The victory marked Randolph's third consecutive 7-0 win of the spring season.

Match Highlights

Meredith opened the match in doubles play, with the pair of Cate Reilly and Molly Zuburg competing at the No. 1 position against Sophia Cahue and Fleur Gaalman. The Avenging Angels also saw Coley Dyer and Jayla Kearney team up at No. 2 doubles, while Zoe Jones and Maya Kirstein rounded out the lineup at No. 3. Randolph ultimately captured the doubles point, but the match provided valuable experience for Meredith's young lineup against a strong ODAC opponent.

In singles competition, Reilly led the Avenging Angels at the No. 1 position and picked up games in both sets of her match. Jones competed at No. 2 singles, followed by Dyer at No. 3 and Kearney at No. 4. Zuburg took the court at No. 5 singles, while Kirstein closed out the Meredith lineup at No. 6 as the Avenging Angels continued to gain experience across the roster.

Key Performances

Reilly led Meredith at the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles, recording games in each set during her singles contest against Fleur Gaalman. Zuburg added games in her No. 5 singles matchup, while the doubles teams of Reilly/Zuburg, Dyer/Kearney, and Jonas/Kirstein gained valuable experience competing against a strong ODAC team.
