RALEIGH, N.C. — With postseason stakes and Senior Day emotions in the air, Meredith College delivered a statement performance in its final regular-season home doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Avenging Angels swept the N.C. Wesleyan University Battling Bishops to secure the No. 2 seed and hosting rights for the USA South Conference Tournament, all while celebrating their seniors in their final game at Meredith. The day proved memorable on every level, as key veterans led the charge and program records fell in the process.
Game 1: Meredith 9, N.C. Wesleyan 3
Meredith broke the game open in a decisive second inning, plating eight runs to seize control early. Patient at-bats and timely hitting fueled the surge, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Ashbee Standridge and a string of clutch contributions throughout the lineup. Tess Spangenburg delivered a key hit during the rally, helping extend the inning as the Avenging Angels capitalized on every opportunity.
The offensive outburst provided plenty of support for Lillie Davis, who went the distance in the circle. Davis scattered six hits and struck out eight to earn her 21st win of the season. Meredith added an insurance run in the fifth and held steady defensively to close out the 9-3 victory.
Game 2: Meredith 4, N.C. Wesleyan 2
The second game brought a tighter contest, but Meredith once again executed in key moments. After a scoreless start, the Avenging Angels broke through in the third inning when Lillie Davis delivered a clutch two-RBI double to give Meredith the lead.
Meredith added two more runs in the fifth, with Spangenburg coming through again—this time with an RBI single to extend the advantage. Davis returned to the circle and was dominant, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs and striking out eight to secure her 22nd win of the season.
N.C. Wesleyan threatened late, but Meredith's defense held firm to complete the sweep with a 4-2 win.
