Walker Sets NCAA Assist Record as Angels Surge Past SVU to Title Game

RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith College delivered a dominant performance on its home field Thursday afternoon, overwhelming Southern Virginia University, 24-1, in the semifinal round of the USA South Conference Tournament. With the win, the Avenging Angels advance to Saturday's championship game on their home turf. Senior Reese Walker not only fueled the victory, but also rewrote the NCAA record books—recording eight assists to surpass the previous all-time career mark of 276 set by Kelsey Winters (2020–24).

Game Highlights

Meredith wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for 12 first-quarter goals and never looking back. The Avenging Angels controlled possession, pace, and field position from the opening draw, holding Southern Virginia scoreless through the first three quarters.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second and third periods, with Meredith adding 11 more goals to build a commanding 23-0 lead. The Angels showcased balanced scoring and efficient ball movement, finishing with 24 goals on 44 shots while going a perfect 19-for-19 on clears.

Defensively, Meredith limited Southern Virginia to just 10 total shots and forced 29 turnovers, while collecting 39 ground balls to maintain control throughout the contest. The Knights' lone goal came late in the fourth quarter, but Meredith quickly answered to cap the scoring at 24-1.
