Sewanee jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter, scoring three times in the first 15 minutes. The Tigers added two more goals in the second quarter to take a 5-0 advantage into halftime.
Sewanee extended its lead with a goal early in the third quarter, but Meredith responded late in the period. Sophomore forward
Sophia Frez put the Avenging Angels on the board with one second remaining in the third quarter, scoring off a penalty corner with assists from junior midfielder
Marissa Tilgner and senior forward
Charlotte Dyer.
Sewanee answered with a goal just over a minute into the fourth quarter, but Meredith quickly responded. Senior forward
Megan Ingenito scored at the 46:49 mark off an assist from sophomore midfielder
Lydia Smith.
The Tigers added two more goals in the final 13 minutes to close out the 9-2 road victory.
Meredith finished with 10 shots, including five on goal, and earned six penalty corners.
Up next, Meredith will face Sweet Briar in its first road matchup of the season, set for this Thursday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Ingenito recorded her team-leading fourth goal of the season, she tallied four shots, including two shots on goal.
- Dyer tied for the team lead with four shots and added her third assist of the season on Frez's goal.
- Frez scored her third goal of the season on her only shot of the game.
- Tilgner recorded an assist on Frez's goal.
