SWEET BRIAR, Va. -
Charlotte Dyer delivered her first career hat trick as Meredith field hockey cruised to an 8-1 victory at Sweet Briar on Thursday evening in Virginia.
Stepping away from the home turf for the first time this season, the Avenging Angels put on a clinical performance in defeating the Vixens, leading wire-to-wire to win at Sweet Briar for the first time in program history.
Meredith scored six of its eight goals from the 9th minute until the 23rd minute, an offensive onslaught that effectively put the game out of reach.
Two seniors connected first to get the scoring started, as Dyer found
Megan Ingenito for the game's first goal, coming in the game's ninth minute.
Less than four minutes later, Dyer tallied her first of the game, scoring off an assist from freshman
Hannah Symonds. Taking the 2-0 lead into the second quarer, the Avenging Angels capitalized on the momentum, taking over the game in the second quarter, as
Lydia Smith scored back-to-back goals to push the lead to 4-0.
Leading 4-0 already, Dyer then put an exclamation point on her outstanding performance, scoring twice within a two minute span, the first of which was unassisted before Sopha Frez found her to secure the hat trick and a 6-0 Meredith lead that it took into the halftime break.
The second half was a much more defensive battle, highlighted by a pair of goals from
Sophia Frez on the Meredith side. Frez's two goals mark her first career multi-goal performance and the sophomore has now scored in all four games this season.
While the Vixens avoided the shutout with a late goal, the Avenging Angels cruised to victory with its most convincing performance to date in the 2026 season.
Up next, a tough test awaits as they return home and will host Randolph-Macon this Sunday, September 20 at 3 p.m.
