FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - In an evenly played game on a rainy and damp Wednesday night in Fayetteville, Meredith soccer fell just short at Methodist in a 1-0 loss.
The Avenging Angels played the Monarchs even throughout. However, a penalty kick goal from Methodist's Allye Carter in the 66th minute proved to be the difference.
After this result, both the Avenging Angels and the Monarchs sit at 1-1 in USA South conference play.
Meredith's offense was coming off a goal-scoring barrage in a 12-1 victory at Salem this past Saturday, but Methodist's goalkeeper delivered a standout performance with nine saves.
Overall, the Angels held a slim 13-12 shot advantage and a 9-5 edge in shots on target.
Individually,
Rachel Ward led the Avenging Angels with three shots on goal, while
Sadie Jones and
Evelyn Hopkins delivered two apiece.
Goalkeeper
Delaney Thompson produced another strong performance, making five saves and allowing only the penalty kick goal.
