WASHINGTON, Pa. - Meredith volleyball continued its dominant start to the 2026 season, rolling to a pair of 3-0 sweeps Friday evening to begin the Vicki Staton Memorial Tournament, hosted by Washington & Jefferson.
The Avenging Angels began the day with a clinical performance in a 3-0 sweep over Waynesburg before dispatching Washington & Jefferson in three sets as well to go 2-0 on the day.
Match 1: Meredith 3, Waynesburg 0
The Avenging Angels set the tone for the match early and never looked back, blitzing Waynesburg from the start by winning the match's first eight points. Meredith eventually took the first set 25-6, before also rolling to a 25-9 win in the second.
Having lost just 15 points over the first two sets, Waynesburg made the Avenging Angels work harder to close out the sweep. However, Meredith was up to the task, pulling away late in the third set after trailing early, as
Reagan Kresho's kill sealed the victory.
Caitlyn Russell led the way with eight kills, while freshman
Elena Bostick had another solid performance, with seven. Kresho had six, including the final point of the match. Defensively,
Megan Murray was solid, recording a team-high 17 digs while also leading the way with five service aces.
As a team, the Avenging Angels were dominant on serve, recording 18 service aces against just nine errors.
Match 2: Meredith 3, Washington & Jefferson 0
Match two almost mirrored the first match to start, with the Avenging Angels racing out to a big early lead in the first set, leading 20-10 at one point. While the Presidents attempted to close the gap with a late rally, a kill by
Karaleigh Dodson ended the comeback attempt and gave Meredith the first set, 25-20.
The second set again saw the Avenging Angels establish control early, as the Presidents attempted to claw their way back in. However, Meredith held them at arm's length and closed out the set at 25-19 on back-to-back kills from Kresho and freshman
Kaylie Parker.
Although the Angels fell behind midway through the third set, they were undeterred, storming back from an 18-15 deficit with a 9-0 run that brought them a point away from winning the match.
Daven Brabble's kill sealed the win at 25-20 and kept Meredith's perfect 3-0 record alive, with no sets dropped yet this season.
TURNING POINT:
- Meredith jumped out to big leads in the first two sets of each match, forcing its opponents to have to rally from down by a significant margin.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Russell led with eight kills against Waynesburg before matching her season high with 13 kills against Washington & Jefferson.
- Murray totaled nine service aces on the day, with five against Waynesburg and four more against Washington & Jefferson.
- Two freshman delivered strong setting performances against the Presidents, as
Scarlet Griffin led with 18 assists while
MarLee Dellinger was close behind with 17.
NEWS AND NOTES:
- This marks Meredith's first 3-0 start since the 2019 season and the first time it has not dropped a set through its first three matches in the school's NCAA era.
