Sarah Watson, ‘18, joined the athletics staff in August 2018 as an assistant softball coach. A four-year Meredith College softball standout, Watson is uniquely qualified to continue the tradition of excellence she helped to establish during her career.
A four-year starter in the outfield, Watson was a vocal leader who set the tone for her teammates on offense and defense. Serving as captain for three years, she helped lead her team to a regular season championship in 2017. Watson received Meredith's first-ever Dean Burris Student-Athlete of the Year Award for her leadership, sportsmanship, and service, while embodying the department's core values.
She started in 118 games for the Avenging Angels and finished with a career batting avg of .341, including 121 hits, 18 doubles, seven triples, four home-runs and 57 RBI’s. In 2017, she received the Jack Huber Softball Award and in 2016 she received the Dean Burris Coach’s Award. She was named All-USA South Conference first team in 2017 and All-East Division second team in 2018.
Watson earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from Meredith College while also obtaining her NC K-12 physical education and healthful living licensure.
