John Wasielewski


John Wasielewski enters his third season as head coach of the Meredith College volleyball program in 2026 after being named the Avenging Angels' head coach in March 2024.

Since arriving in Raleigh, Wasielewski has quickly elevated the Meredith volleyball program, guiding the Avenging Angels to back-to-back winning seasons. Meredith posted a 16-12 record in his debut campaign in 2024 before improving to 19-12 in 2025, marking one of the program's most successful two-year stretches in recent history.

Under Wasielewski's leadership, Meredith student-athletes have continued to earn recognition at the conference level. The Avenging Angels have produced three USA South All-Conference selections, one USA South Rookie of the Year, and four USA South Athletes of the Week during his tenure. In 2024, Delaney Lowery earned USA South Rookie of the Year honors after an outstanding first season.

Wasielewski has also overseen the continued development of Meredith's veteran players. During his time with the program, Lillie Davis and Megan Murray each surpassed the 1,000-career dig milestone, joining an elite group of defensive standouts in program history.

Wasielewski arrived at Meredith with more than three decades of collegiate coaching experience and a reputation as one of the nation's most respected volleyball coaches.

Prior to joining Meredith, he spent six seasons as associate head coach at Virginia Tech, where he worked primarily with the Hokies' setters and played a key role in recruiting, player development, scouting, and match preparation.

Before his tenure in Blacksburg, Wasielewski served as associate head coach at Duke for 18 seasons. Working alongside head coach Jolene Nagel, he helped transform the Blue Devils into one of the premier programs in the Atlantic Coast Conference. During his time in Durham, Duke earned 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, captured four ACC Championships, posted 14 20-win seasons, and advanced to an ACC-record seven consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2005-11.

Widely regarded as one of the top assistant coaches in collegiate volleyball, Wasielewski helped develop 17 All-Americans, four ACC Players of the Year, and more than 20 All-ACC selections. He was also a member of four ACC Coach of the Year staffs and four East Region Coach of the Year staffs.

Prior to Duke, Wasielewski served as head coach at St. Bonaventure University from 1992-98 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach with the Bonnies. During his tenure, he helped establish St. Bonaventure as a competitive program within the Atlantic 10 Conference while earning a master's degree in education from the institution in 1992.

A former standout student-athlete, Wasielewski competed collegiately at Penn State University, where he was a two-time team captain and a member of two NCAA Final Four teams in 1987 and 1989. He later served as a student assistant coach for the Penn State women's volleyball program during its 1989 Big Ten Championship season. Wasielewski also competed in the 1986 and 1987 U.S. Olympic Festivals, earning bronze medals in both appearances.

He earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Penn State in 1990.

Wasielewski and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Jack and Jenna.
