Box Score Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball team completed a season sweep of Peace on Wednesday night as the Avenging Angels won 3-2. The match included a trading of leads until Meredith took the fifth set 18-16 to seal the win. The win gave Meredith nine USA South Conference wins, their highest total since joining the league in 2007.
Meredith 3, Peace 2 (25-19, 16-25, 19-25, 25-19, 18-16) - After both teams took two sets each with Meredith winning the first and fourth and Peace the second and third the match went to a fifth set. The Avenging Angels took an early 4-1 lead but saw it disappear to a 12-9 advantage for Peace. Meredith then took nine of the last 13 points to gain the 18-16 fifth set victory. A key to the run was Cori Spade having five kills in that streath with assists from Kara Baughman.
The Avenging Angels (16-11, 9-7 USA South) were led by Spade with 19 kills and six digs. Anna Hayes added 12 kills and Molly Markley had 10. Baughman was the assist leader with 26 and she also had 20 digs. MaryBeth Finegan led the defense with 29 digs.
Meredith completes their regular season on Saturday as then head to Winchester, Va. to take on Shenandoah and Greensboro.
