Box Score Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball team opened their USA South Conference schedule on the road at N.C. Wesleyan. The match went five sets with Meredith winning 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 17-15.
The Battling Bishops got out of the gate early as they took the first set 25-23 and the second set 25-20. The Avenging Angels made a come back to take the next two sets 25-22, 25-21 in the close match.
The fifth set saw N.C. Weslayan take an early 5-0 lead until Meredith chipped away at it to tie the set at 7-all. The Bishops then pushed the score to 14-12 to have multiple match points, but the Angels got the next two points to tie it at 14-all. N.C. Wesleyan then took the next point to put it back to match point at 15-14, but Meredith won the next three points and stole the match from the Battling Bishops.
Meredith was led by Cori Spade with 36 kills and eight digs. Molly Markley added 13 kills and two block assists. Clarke Glendenning put up 38 assists and Emily Anderson pulled up 27 digs.
Meredith next heads to Ferrum, Va. on Friday to take on Christopher Newport at 6 p.m. and host Ferrum at 8 p.m.
