VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Meredith volleyball squad swept day-one of the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational with wins over Rowan and Mary Washington to open the 2013 season.

Set scores in a 3-2 win over The RU Profs were 16-25, 27-25, 25-15, 17-25, 15-13. In a 3-1 victory over UMW, set scores were 25-18, 16-25, 25-21, 25-20.

Rookies Karlie Long at the outside and libero Emery McGee led the Avenging Angels in their collegiate debuts.

Meredith faces Virginia Wesleyan at 10 a.m. and follows with Randolph in Saturday's action at VWC. Follow both matches live here.
