Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Meredith College Avenging Angel volleyball squad took care of Salem 3-0 in tonight's road game with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-19. The win gives Meredith back-to-back victories as they head into the tough conference season next week beginning at Methodist Wednesday.
The teams played close in set one, trading points most of the way. Neither team hit well, but Meredith managed 11 kills to Salem's nine to give the Avenging Angels a slight edge.
In set two the hosts held a two-point advantage at 15-13 before MC's Jasmine Aguinaldo led Meredith back in front on a 5-0 run from the service line. Jessica Goodwin and setter Anna Hayes connected on a pair of kills during the series.
Back-to-back kills from Molly Markley and Karlie Long extended Meredith's lead just long enough for a Salem misstep to seal the Avenging Angel win.
Meredith used the 2-0 match lead to their advantage heading into the third frame and jumped out to an early 8-3 advantage.
But one of Salem's two match-leading hitters Michelle Morgan connected on a trio of blasts to put the Spirits right back in the mix.
Morgan missed her next attempt, and Meredith's rightside hitter Katelyn Rall crushed one from Hayes to keep the Avenging Angels on top by three at 10-7.
A trio of kills from Salem combined with a miscue from the visitors allowed the Spirits to take their first and only lead of the set at 11-10.
Libero Emery McGee put one up for Goodwin to tie the game at 11 before Karlie Long locked in the Meredith advantage for the rest of the night.
Markley and Long tallied nine kills apiece for the Avenging Angels, and Rall added five in just 10 atttempts for .500 hitting on the night.
Salem's Morgan and Olivia Newbern led all with 11 kills each.
