Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Va. - Meredith's volleyball team finished the day at 3-3 overall after dropping a pair of matches at Washington & Lee's Invitational. Southern Virginia swept the Avenging Angels with 21-25, 17-25, 16-25, and the Generals capped off the day with a 3-0 win (20-25, 16-25, 16-25).
April Hausler and Jasmine Aguinaldo led the fight versus the Knights with a combined 10 kills and four blocks. Outside hitter Emily Hendricks and middle Molly Markley tallied five hits each, and setters Anna Hayes and Clarke Glendenning posted eight assists apiece in the loss.
The Avenging Angel swingers revved up the energy in the nightcap against W & L. Rookie Karlie Long and Katelyn Rall posted a combined 17 kills in +.400 hitting for Meredith. Long led the Avenging Angels with 11 digs on the night.
Meredith faces Otterbein and Christopher Newport in day-two of the tournament. Both programs sit atop the Division III top-25 preseason coaches poll. The Avenging Angels open the morning against the Cardinals and end the day with former USA South member CNU.
The 2013 home opener is slated for Tuesday, September 10, versus St. Andrews.
