Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - With just one regular season play day remaining in the Meredith College volleyball schedule, tonight's 3-0 (25-19-25-16, 25-13) sweep over William Peace University keeps the Avenging Angels at the top of USA South North division standings.
The teams opened set one evenly matched and the score reset on the fifth occasion at sevens.
Meredith scored the next three points on a Pacer miscue, followed by a kill and a block from Alex Hafliger. But William Peace scored six of the next seven points to jump ahead 13-11.
Hannah Blaylock unleashed a pair of service winners and distributed an assist to Jasmine Aguinaldo to help move Meredith back in front 17-14.
The Pacers remained close until Hafliger and Karlie Long finished out the set on a series of winners from Meredith's offense.
The Avenging Angels carried the momentum into the second frame and took a quick 7-3 lead over the visitors. Meredith continued to rattle the Pacers and slipped away with a nine-point advantage to hold a 2-0 match lead.
Meredith jumped out to a seven point lead in the third set and quickly spread the gap to finish off Peace in three.
Long led all with 18 kills and three more Angels followed with six apiece. Aguinaldo, Hafliger and Elizabeth Pattison recorded six kills each, and the three combined for 9-of-10 blocks. Blaylock dished out a game-high 35 assists and led MCVB with eight digs.
WPU's Megan Mansfield posted 10 kills, and Carson Williams led all with nine digs.
The Avenging Angels host a USA South play day Saturday, Nov. 1, to wrap up the regular season. Meredith opens with Greensboro at 10 a.m. and caps the season with Mary Baldwin at 4 p.m. Methodist plays both the Pride and MBC as well.
