Volleyball Handles the Panthers with Ease

Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith College volleyball team handled the visiting Ferrum Panthers in three sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-14) during the Avenging Angels' Dig Pink event. Ten Angels recorded at least one kill and one dig with Karlie Long leading the way in both.

Meredith opened the first set a little slow but found their rhythm on a kill from Emily Hendricks that tied the game at fours.

The Avenging Angels pushed ahead to a 21-9 lead before giving up three consecutive points to allow the Panthers to pull to within single digits. But kills from setter Hannah Blaylock and Long finished off the set to give Meredith a 1-0 lead.

Head Meredith Coach Fiona Barkley changed up her lineup in the second stanza and the subs responded. Meredith's "never let it fall" mentality created multiple winners for the Angels during the set thanks, in part, to Keegan Lynch.

After allowing the score to reset on the fifth occasion at 7-7, Meredith created a three-point gap. Jasmine Aguinaldo paired up with Sarah Brandon and Hendricks for back-to-back stuffs to extend that lead to six at 18-12.

Ferrum battled back to within one and forced Barkley to call for a timeout. The Panthers picked up one more point before the Avenging Angels stepped up the offense to put away the frame.

Katie Keen subbed in and dished out an assist to Hendricks and helped Meredith finish off the set with another winner to Long.

The Avenging Angels wrapped up the match with a quick 9-2 start in set three. The Panthers landed a pair of kills and scored a third consecutive point on a Meredith misstep before the Angels took over for good.

Haylee Parks entered the lineup with Meredith ahead 10-5 and served the Angels 10 straight, including back-to-back service aces.

Ferrum extended the match on a 6-2 run late in the set before Meredith finished off the match on a kill from Brandon and Keen.

Long led all with nine kills and 14 digs, and Agiunaldo notched four kills and five blocks. Blaylock posted 18 assists with seven digs, and Brandon recorded five kills in the win.

Meredith is slated to host a USA South play day Saturday, and the Avenging Angels will jump start the league action at 10 a.m. versus Huntingdon. Meredith caps off the afternoon with a 4 p.m. match versus the LaGrange Panthers. Methodist will play both the Hawks and Panthers in between Meredith's games.
