Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. - The Meredith College volleyball squad opened the Roanoke Invitational with a pair of losses Friday. The Avenging Angels fell in a close, five-set match to Randolph (18-25, 25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 10-15) before falling in straight sets to Southern Virginia (19-25, 18-25, 23-25).
Karlie Long posted her second double-double of the season with 22 kills and 14 digs in the five-set loss to the Maroons. Anna Huff finished with 13 kills and three blocks, and Elizabeth Pattison added nine kills in the loss.
Southern Virginia shut down the Avenging Angel attack and held Meredith to just a .098 hitting percentage.
Rookie setter Hannah Blaylock tallied a match-high 60 assists versus Roanoke, before posting her first career double-double in the loss to the Knights with 28 assists, 13 digs.
Long knocked down nine kills with four digs versus SVU, and defensive specialist Emery McGee gathered 13 digs to bring her day-total to 30.
The Avenging Angels face Hollins Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and cap off the weekend with the hosts at 11. Meredith returns to Weatherspoon Gymnasium Tuesday evening in the conference opener with Methodist.
