Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Meredith College Avenging Angels claimed a pair of wins in Saturday's USA South play day at Methodist. Meredith swept Mary Baldwin 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-21) before downing the Greensboro Pride 3-1 (15-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-13). Hannah Blaylock led the day with 65 assists, and Haley Reeg tallied 22 kills on the day.
Meredith held on to second place in USA South Conference North division standings with today's victories heading into Wednesday's rematch with undefeated Averett. The Cougars travel to Raleigh for a 7 p.m. event.
The Angels opened up with a 10-4 lead versus the Fighting Squirrels and maintained the pressure en route to a ten-point win.
Mary Baldwin responded scoring the first two points before Angels libero Emery McGee stepped in for 10 consecutive serves to lead Meredith to an 11-2 advantage. MBC put on the pressure scoring four points late in the set before Karlie Long landed a kill and McGee capped off the win with a service ace.
Reeg and Katie Keen paired up for a kill to open the third frame, and Hanna Huff and Long stuffed the next attempt to put the Angels up 2-0. Reeg capped off the rally with a service ace as MCVB pushed ahead to a set victory for the win.
After a break in the action, the Angels launched an offensive clinic against the Greensboro Pride. Four players finished with double-digit kills, including Reeg who led with .650 hitting percentage from the middle. Elizabeth Pattison tallied 14 with a hitting percentage of .481. Long led all with 15, and Emily Hendricks landed 13 winners in the win.
Defensively, McGee led the match with 26 digs, Long notched 11, and Blaylock tied her second-best career performance with 55 assists.
