Box Score DEMOREST, Ga. - The Meredith College lacrosse team suffered a 13-11 loss to the Piedmont Lions in Saturday's battle for first place in USA South Conference standings. Danielle Lee led the Angel offense with four goals on the day.
The Avenging Angels outshot Piedmont 30-20 and recorded four fewer turnovers, but the Lions led much of the way in today's must-have contest. PC's Blake Forrest deflected 10 attempts in 60-minutes in the cage to fend off Meredith's attack.
Lee added five draw controls, five groundballs and three caused turnovers to go along with her five offensive points. Lottie Meadows recorded a hat trick for Meredith, and Victoria Doyle added three draws and three groundballs, along with one assist. Alyssa Codispoti tallied four groundballs and a career-high four caused turnovers. Lynsi Beers, Alison Reisert, Jennifer Halvorson and Carlee Joseph added one goal apiece for the Angels, and Meghan Brooks notched four saves in her fifth loss on the season.
Only 7 of the day's 24 goals were scored during the first 30 minutes of play, and the Lions held a one-point lead heading into the intermission.
Piedmont collected the second half's opening draw and scored quickly on a free position attempt to extend their lead to two.
Six minutes later, Meadows found the gap to pull Meredith back to within one at 23:10. Doyle picked up the next draw to keep the ball in control of the Angels and delivered the ball to Reisert for the score to tie the game at fives.
Lee netted an unassisted goal less than two minutes later to give MC Lax their only lead of the match, but the advantage was shortlived.
Piedmont's Alexis Narducci scored back-to-back goals to put the Lions back in the lead at 14:30.
Another Lee goal with an assist from Halvorson evened the score once more, but the Lions scored five of the next six points to secure the conference victory.
Meredith returns to their home turf for a pair of matches next week. The Angels first host Centre College in the final non-conference duel of the regular season Thursday night at 6 p.m., followed by a USA South battle with the Ferrum Panthers Saturday at 2 p.m. Head Coach Lauren Scott and her team will celebrate the seniors just prior to the opening draw next weekend.
