Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Trailing by one at the half, the Meredith College lacrosse team battled to finish off the Greensboro Pride 20-18 in Tuesday's USA South action. Danielle Lee led the Avenging Angels with seven points and nine draw controls.
Dead even at 34 shots apiece and Meredith with just one extra turnover, the Avenging Angels slipped past the Pride on 7 free position goals in 12 attempts to just 2-of-4 for the hosts from eight meters.
Lee's seven points came from five goals and two assists, and Jennifer Halvorson tallied five goals on six attempts. Carlee Joseph and Victoria Doyle added four goals apiece, with Lottie Meadows and Lynsi Beers netting one each in the win. Alyssa Codispoti notched four draw controls to Doyle's three. Meghan Brooks tallied 10 saves in her eighth win on the season.
Greensboro's Kristin Norris led all with nine total points on six goals and three assists, adding five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Seven ties and two lead changes during the first 30 minutes of play, left the Pride with a one-point halftime advantage.
But the Angels opened the second stanza on a 5-0 run in the first five minutes to pull ahead by four at 24:59.
GC scored quickly off the next draw control, but Beers helped Meredith capitalize on a Greensboro penalty to maintain the four-point spread.
The Pride notched back-to-back winners to challenge Meredith's lead, but the Angels added three more on a pair of free position points and an unassisted score from Meadows.
The team's exchanged points during the next nine minutes leaving the Angels with a five-point advantage heading into the final 5:49 of regulation.
GC's Norris and Ashlynn Parks led the Pride's offense to three more goals over the final minutes of play, but Meredith maintained the lead down the stretch.
The Avenging Angels remain on the road in the final weeks of the regular season and head to Methodist Thursday evening for the both teams' final league match of the regular season. Meredith will hold on to second place heading into the tournament regardless of the outcome.
