Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - In Saturday's USA South Conference opener Meredith College lacrosse cruised to a 22-2 victory over the visiting LaGrange Panthers. Thirteen Avenging Angels scored in the win with Katie Burnet leading with four goals, three assists.
Meredith charged into the lead scoring eight unanswered goals during the first 10 minutes of play. Rookie Lynsi Beers entered the field and followed with back-to-back netters with help from Burnet.
LaGrange's Madeline LaCavera scored her fifth goal of the season for the Panthers off a pass from Alexis Dillard to put the visitor's on the scoreboard at 13:54.
An unforced error from LaGrange gave the ball back to the Angels, and Taylor Pearce scored her first point on the season, assisted by Victoria Doyle. Burnet followed in the next offensive series with her 13th season goal to spread the gap back to 11 with less than six minutes remaining in the half.
Freshman Jessica Sampson wrapped up the period with her first collegiate score to send Meredith into the break up 14-1.
The Avenging Angels maintained their momentum after the intermission as Doyle and Carlee Joseph found the goal in the opening minutes of the second half.
Head Coach Lauren Scott adjusted her lineup, and defenders Katie Sills and Cameron Ruffin advanced the Angel lead to 20-2 with 13:33 remaining in regulation. Pearce and Alyssa Codispoti notched a goal apiece in the final 5:29 to finish off the day's scoring.
Meredith goalie Meghan Brooks earned her second win on the season with four saves, and Griffin Hewett logged 35:18 in her debut in goal with a pair of saves on the day.
Panther keeper Kallie Brook took the loss with six saves in the loss.
The Avenging Angels remain home Sunday and face the Huntingdon Hawks to cap off the USA South weekend doubleheader. First draw is slated for Noon on the Meredith turf.
A special thanks to the Meredith alumnae-athletes who returned to campus today for the first all-athletic reunion. The group enjoyed brunch with the spring sport athletes and heard comments from Athletic Director Jackie Myers and three-sport athlete Danielle Lee.
