Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Meredith College lacrosse Avenging Angels closed out the USA South regular season with a 17-4 victory at Methodist. Meredith will enter the conference tournament as the second seed and play the 3:30 p.m. semifinal match in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on April 17.
The Avenging Angels outshot Methodist 40-10 and collected 14-of-22 draws to maintain control for the duration of tonight's match.
After a pair of MC Lax turnovers during the early minutes of play, Meredith's Jennifer Halvorson opened the scoring at 26:19. The hosts quickly responded to even the match, but leading scorer Lottie Meadows set the Angels on a 5-0 run to spread the gap.
Methodist scored next and found the net once more on a last second free position goal to end the half down 13-3 to Meredith.
After the break Meadows teamed up once more with Victoria Doyle to extend the Angels advantage to 11 at 21:04. MC Lax added three more goals down the stretch to cruise to the easy win.
Meadows led all with five goals, adding one assist, while Doyle and Carlee Joseph added four goals apiece. Doyle dished out a pair of assists and tallied four groundballs and four draw controls, while Danielle Lee notched a game-high five groundballs to go along with three goals. The first goal of the match was Halvorson's last, but she added an assist along with two groundballs and two caused turnovers in the win.
Goalies Meghan Brooks and Griffin Hewett shared time on the field, each with 30 minutes in goal for the Angels. Brooks earned her ninth win with three saves, and Hewett added a save midway through the second period.
MU's Cassie Walter led the Monarchs with a pair of goals, and goalie Emily Ewin tallied 11 saves in her fifth loss on the season.
