Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AVERETT, Va. -- Meredith College volleyball senior Jasmine Agiunaldo broke two career blocking records as the Avenging Angels split in Saturday's USA South play day. Meredith swept Ferrum 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-23) before Averett edged the Angels 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 12-15).

Aguinaldo led both matches with six blocks apiece to reach 218 career block assists and 292 career total blocks with half the season left to play.

Meredith scored 11 unanswered points in the first set versus Ferrum en route to a 1-0 match lead, and set two followed much the same pattern. The Angels led 12-11 before scoring 8 of the next 10 points to push ahead 20-13. Karlie Long crushed back-to-back winners to finish off the Panthers to lead by two sets heading into the third frame.

Ferrum led most of the way in the third set until a trio of Meredith kills tied the match at 21s. The Panthers used both timeouts during the next three plays, but Meredith finished off Ferrum on a blast from Long to claim the match victory.

The Avenging Angels faced off with USA South rival Averett in a thrilling night cap. Game statistics place the teams even throughout the match with the exception of service errors and blocks. MCVB led both battles with just 9 service errors to Averett's 20 and 19 total blocks to the Cougar's four. But Averett edged Meredith for the win to remain undefeated in the conference and lead the USA South North division standings.

Aguinaldo tallied 16 kills on the day, and Long led Meredith with 23. Hannah Blaylock dished out a match high 35 assists versus Ferrum and tied Averett's Keenan Marks with 41. Alex Hafliger posted 20 kills with four blocks, and Elizabeth Pattison finished with 11 kills, adding five blocks. Emery McGee grabbed 40 digs with four service winners versus the Cougars, and Keegan Lynch finished with 17 digs on the day.

Ferrum's Hannah Helbert led with 19 digs, and Averett's Hannah Sheilds notched a match-high 18 kills.

The Avenging Angels host rival William Peace University Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The winner will take over sole ownership of second place in current USA South standings. Follow the action live HERE.
