But a second trio of winners from the Captain's front line shifted the momentum and helped CNU pull away for the eventual 1-0 match lead.
Set two followed much the same pattern with the team's even at 19s. A flurry of unforced errors in the final plays of the second stanza left the Avenging Angels vulnerable as CNU scored six of the last seven points.
In spite of Meredith's recovery in set three, posting their first double-digit kills total of the match, the Captain's maintained a small gap throughout the final frame to capture the overall win.
Meredith regrouped after the loss and battled with Hiram to hold a 13-11 lead in the first frame. But a 7-0 Terrier run shifted the momentum in favor of Hiram. Head Meredith Coach Fiona Barkley's substitution of April Hausler interrupted the series, and the Avenging Angels scored eight of the next nine to regain a two point lead at 21-19.
Hiram's Logan Brewer landed three of her six match kills in the final five plays to give the Terriers the win.
The victory led Hiram on an 8-1 rally to open the second set, and the Terriers continued to dominate holding Meredith to just nine points.
Ten consecutive points with Hiram's Ashton Webb at the service line proved too much for the Avenging Angels, and the Terriers pushed ahead to claim the win.
