Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball team moved to 13-0 in the USA South and 21-2 overall after defeating the visiting Greensboro Pride 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-18) Tuesday night. Libero Keegan Lynch grabbed a match-high 15 digs in the conference battle.
Greensboro arrived at Weatherspoon tonight ready to challenge the top-seeded Avenging Angels, but MCVB would not relenquish their perfect league record. Down much of the way through the first stanza, Meredith finally turned the corner on a 3-0 rally that included back-to-back Pride attack errors capped off by a winner from Caroline Corey on one of 12 match-high kills.
Tori Belcher tied the score on the next play before another Corey kill led to two more GC errors to edge Meredith into the lead 23-20. Hannah Blaylock dished an assist to Haley Reeg that led to a 1-0 match lead.
MCVB opened the second frame 9-0, but Greensboro fought back in a 4-1 rally. Elizabeth Pattison set up a six-point run, and the Angels continued to charge ahead towards a two-set advantage.
The Pride interrupted Meredith's momentum with a 5-1 score to open set three, but an 8-3 series put MCVB back in charge. The Avenging Angels continued to battle and put away the Pride in three, the team's 5th consecutive sweep and 12th-in-13 matches.
Pattison recorded 11 kills, and Karlie Long notched eight. Reeg finished with six kills, and Blaylock tallied a match-high 37 assists.
Meredith hosts N.C. Wesleyan one week from tonight on Senior Night. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m., and MCVB's five seniors will be honored 15 minutes before starting lineups.
Meredith families planning to attend Saturday's Parents Day should consider joining the Avenging Angels at the 1 p.m. soccer match. The Angels face off with the East Division leader Ferrum College in the team's Kick Cancer event. Wear your pink and plan for lunch with Sarge's Chef on Wheels, a local food truck scheduled to be on site.
