Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- Last year's USA South Rookie of the Year Carlee Joseph netted a match-high eight goals to lead the Meredith College lacrosse squad to a 20-8 victory over the visiting Virginia Wesleyan Marlins. The win marked the first for the Avenging Angels over VWC in program history.
Joseph recorded a hat trick during the first 3:26 to set the tone for the match. Molly Miller assisted Katie Burnet on the next two goals to give Meredith a 5-0 lead at 24:23.
Wesleyan's Abby Shope put the Marlins on the board at 23:08, but Meredith continued to dominate the game. The Angels would allow just one more point from the visitors through the remainder of the half.
VWC's Megan Schallock gave new life to the Marlins' offense in the second period as she scored three of her team's next five goals. Freshman Holly Hite landed a goal with just 6:36 remaining in regulation, and Joseph widened the gap on two more with help from Miller.
Katie Sills earned her third win on the season with two saves in eight attempts, and Madison Carroll recorded the loss for Wesleyan.
Katie Burnet and Victoria Doyle tallied four goals apiece, and Miller notched a match-high seven assists for MC Lax.
