Joseph Scores Seven to Lead MC Lax to 16-12 Win Over Colonels

Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Sophomore Carlee Joseph scored seven goals to lead the Meredith College lacrosse Angels to a 16-12 victory over host Centre College Friday night. Tied 12-12 with 12:04 remaining in regulation, Meredith netted four consecutive goals to finish off the Colonels.

Centre controlled the draw with 24 to Meredith's 5, but the Avenging Angels forced 14 turnovers to defend the attack. Katie Sills defended the cage with 10 saves, and MC Lax wore down the Colonels to claim the win.

Meredith grabbed the opening draw but a quick turnover returned the ball to the Colonels for a goal. Joseph pulled in the next draw, and Molly Miller delivered a pass to Katie Burnet for the goal to tie the match early.

Jennifer Halvorson and Joseph netted two more to edge Meredith into the lead, but Centre responded with a trio of goals to change the lead once again. The battle continued leaving the team's even at the intermission.

After the break the hosts found the net twice in the first 2:11, but Burnet and Miller interrupted the run with a quick score of their own. Julie Capretti ended a defensive series with an unassisted goal to tie the match at 10s, but CC's Haden Gibbons scored quickly after controlling the next draw to put the Colonels back in front.

Eight minutes, four goals later and the team's remained even at a dozen apiece. Joseph earned back-to-back free position attempts and landed both to set the Angels up for the close.

Burnet and Halvorson finished with three goals apiece, and Victoria Doyle added a pair. Nine Angels recorded at least one caused turnover as the balanced defense was the difference in the match.

Meredith remains in Kentucky for a battle with Rhodes College Saturday afternoon. The Lynx advanced to last year's second round of the NCAA Division III tournament with a 16-12 win over the Angels. First draw tomorrow is slated for 1 p.m. (CST). Follow the action live HERE.
