Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball Avenging Angels traveled back to Pfeiffer Saturday for a pair of USA South Conference sweeps. In a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) win over Greensboro, Alex Hafliger posted a .909 hitting percentage with 10 kills in 11 attempts, and Lauren Grodi notched 29 assists, 10 service aces in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-5) victory over Mary Baldwin.
Game 1
With a pair of service aces from Caroline Corey, Meredith finally began to assume control of set one versus the Pride 9-7. Tyler Bryan landed a kill and then paired up with Haley Reeg for a stuff. Samantha Smith notched back-to-back kills, as MCVB managed to pull ahead to a six-point lead at 15-9. Greensboro called for a timeout, but Meredith continued to advance their lead to nine.
A late rally pulled the Pride back to within six, but the Angels earned the win for a 1-0 match lead.
Meredith allowed GC back in the match with a 14-8 lead in the second stanza, but Reeg finally put away two consecutive points to get the Angels back on track. Hannah Blaylock dished out a series of winners to her teammates, and Meredith finally regained the lead at 19-18.
GC's Emily Horn landed back-to-back kills from Katie Clark to shift the lead back in favor of the Pride, but Hafliger and Reeg ended the series as MCVB edged Greensboro for the win.
Meredith drove to an early 5-1 lead in the third frame, but Greensboro fought their way back to even the score at nine. Blaylock continued to find her middles, and the Avenging Angels moved back in front for good.
Blaylock posted a double-double with 34 assists, 11 digs, and Corey finished with 10 kills, 8 digs. Katie Keen notched 10 digs and a pair of assists.
Game 2
The Fighting Squirrels challenged MCVB midway through the first set scoring five-of-seven points to pull to within three at 14-11. But three of Grodi's service aces led the Avenging Angels on an 11-1 rally to finish off MBU for a 1-0 lead. Baldwin would score just 11 points combined during the next two stanza's as MCVB knocked off their second conference foe on the day.
Elisabeth Smith and Ally Copenhaver led the Angels with a combined 21 kills, and Cathy Delano and Bryan added 13 more. Lauren Phillips recorded a match0high 11 digs in the win.
