Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Meredith College Lax Angels cruised to a 15-7 win over USA South Conference foe Methodist University. Julie Capretti, Jennifer Halvorson, and Holly Hite carried the Avenging Angels with four goals apiece.
Meredith jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead within the first five minutes of play and went on to score eight of nine points to dominate the first half. Hite and Capretti recorded three goals apiece in the period to help the Angels close the first 30 minutes of action 8-1 over the Monarchs.
Methodist's Monti Hendrix opened the second half on a free position goal, but a Monarch turnover on the next drive returned the ball to Meredith for a Halvorson point.
Angels
Jordyn King and Hite controlled the next two draw controls, but the hosts took advantage of a pair of MC Lax missteps to complete a 2-0 scoring run closing in on Meredith's lead. The teams exchanged goals throughout the stanza until the Avenging Angels put together a three-point streak in the last five minutes of regulation to secure the win.
Halvorson recorded three of her four goals in the second stanza to keep MC Lax in control down the stretch.
Haley Whitfield recorded sixth win in her seventh career start with two stops for the Angels in 40 minutes of play. Angel
Sydney Hardee entered the match at the beginning of the second half to close out the game with one save for Meredith. Monarch Jannelle Gant recorded the loss for MU with seven saves on the day.
Capretti recorded eight shots, seven on goal, and Molly Miller tallied two assists to lead the Avenging Angels. Sarah Arbes led the match with five draw controls, adding three groundballs, and Alyssa Codispoti led the defense with three steals, adding a pair of groundballs and one goal. Carlee Joseph scored one goal in the first half on just one attempt.
MU's Monti Hendrix and Emily Brennen led the Monarchs with two goals each.
