Box Score DEMOREST, Ga. -- The Meredith College lacrosse Angels dominated Saturday's USA South match at Piedmont for a 19-6 victory. Holly Hite led with a match-high five goals, tying her season-high, and seven draw controls.
The Avenging Angels out shot the hosts 40-16 and collected 20 draw controls to just 7 for Piedmont to control the pace. Meredith keeper Haley Whitfield earned her eighth win with six stops on the day, and PC's Blake Forrest earned the loss with 15 saves.
After eight scoreless minutes to begin play, Jennifer Halvorson found the net for Meredith to put the first point on the board. The Angels increased the margin to three with goals from Sarah Arbes and Julie Capretti.
Caitlin O'Brien scored Piedmont's first point in the 11th minute, but Meredith's Alyssa Codispoti found Carlee Joseph in the lane for a goal one minute later.
The Lions netted two of the next three goals to narrow the gap to just two. Hite and Capretti responded with back-to-back netters within a 23 second time frame to push the lead back to four.
With less than a minute remaining in the period, Piedmont's Kayla Jones scored on a Meredith turnover. Hite controlled the next draw, and Halvorson scored the final goal of the half on a free position attempt to leave MC Lax in front 8-4 heading into the break.
Hite controlled the opening minutes of the second stanza scoring three consecutive goals in the first two minutes of play to advance Meredith's lead. Piedmont's O'Brien and Jones paired up to score two of the next three goals leaving MC Lax in front by six.
Joseph found the box on three of next four Meredith points and assisted Capretti on another to push the Lions further behind. Capretti picked up her second assist with a dish to Maria Codispoti before Halvorson and Cameron Ruffin finished off Piedmont for good on a pair of free position attempts.
Joseph finished the match with four goals, one assist, and a pair of draw controls, and Miller dished out five assists. Halvorson and Capretti tallied three goals apiece, and Capretti added two assists for five total points in the win.
O'Brien led the Lions with three goals in five shots, and Francesca Malabad tallied four groundballs, three draw controls.
The Angels head to Virginia on Wednesday to face the Bridgewater Eagles. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m. on the neutral turf of USA South member Ferrum College.
