Box Score FERRUM, Va. -- In Wednesday afternoon's non-conference action versus Bridgewater, Meredith College lacrosse downed the Eagles 12-11 in a sudden-victory overtime thriller. Jordyn King controlled the opening draw in the extra period, and Maria Codispoti netted the game winner.
Carlee Joseph opened play in the 26th minute with the first of her match-high four goals to give Meredith an early 1-0 advantage over Bridgewater, and Molly Miller assisted on the play. Eagle Kristen Stark answered with back-to-back goals within the next four minutes pushing BC in front 2-1.
Joseph and Miller teamed up for the next two Meredith points with each recording a goal to shift the lead again. Holly Hite collected the next draw control, but Jennifer Halvorson's quick attempt was stopped by the keeper. Bridgewater earned a quick clear and drove in to even the match at three.
BC's Annie Sullivan scored her second unassisted goal to edge the Eagels back in front, but Joseph and Miller paired up once more to tie the match. Sullivan followed with a free position score, but Meredith's Julie Capretti notched one of her own in the next series to battle back to even.
Bridgewater scored two goals within the final 90 seconds to give the Eagles a one point lead heading into the intermission.
Meredith's offense gained momentum after halftime, netting the first four goals of the stanza for a 9-7 advantage. Four different Angels contributed, and Halvorson dished out two assists during the run.
Bridgewater followed Capretti's second free position score with a quick winner, but an Eagle turnover gave the ball back to Joseph for a dish to Hite to maintain a two-point spread.
Bridgewater turned a one-person advantage into a goal after an Angel penalty in the 23rd minute and battled with Meredith through the next seven minutes. Miller finally ended the draught with a dish to Hite at 12:24 to spread the lead back to two.
The Eagles scored back-to-back goals to tie the match at 11 with 5:27 left in regulation. Both teams made an unsuccessful attempt at their respective goal to send the match into extra time.
Hite tallied three goals, four draw controls, and Miller led all with four assists. Capretti and M. Codispoti notched two points on two shots on goal, and Alyssa Codispoti forced two Bridgewater turnovers with three ground balls, two draw controls.
Haley Whitfield recorded her ninth win in goal for the Angels with 10 stops and three ground balls, while Eagle Rachel Gruber earned the loss with six saves.
Sullivan led the match with five goals for the Eagles, and Sarah Yashinskle collected a match-high six draw controls in the loss.
Meredith returns to their home turf Saturday to face the LaGrange College Panthers in USA South action. The first draw is slated for Noon. Sunday's pairing with Huntingdon will feature a brief senior recognition ceremony just prior to the match.
