Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. -- In Tuesday's Noon lacrosse match on the neutral turf of the University of the South, Meredith College dispatched a 23-5 win over the Albion Britons. Thirteen Avenging Angels contributed to the offense, and Holly Hite's career-high 11 draw controls kept the ball in Meredith's possession.
With Hite's effort the Avenging Angels controlled 23 draws compared to 7 for the Britons, and Meredith attempted 44 shots to just 19 from their opponent. Haley Whitfield earned her fourth start and win in the cage for MC Lax with four stops in her 25:11 played. Sydney Hardee stepped in-goal for the first time this season late in the first period to play the rest of the match with four saves. Albion's Jenina Villabroza took the loss for Albion.
Meredith made quick work of the Britons scoring the first nine goals through the first 17:44. The Britons ended the run in the 20th minute of the match and added a second point with just under five minutes remaining in the half thanks in part to an Angel penalty.
Henley Peatross controlled the next draw, and Julie Capretti picked up a deflection on an Olivia Higgs attempt to maintain control. Julie-Anne Pretty netted her third career goal and third of the match to advance Meredith's lead to 10 with 4:11 left in the half.
Albion scored quickly off the next draw and maintained control after an Angel turnover at the circle. Hardee deflected back-to-back Briton attempts, and an Albion miscue sent the ball the other direction. The Avenging Angels served up two attempts but would enter the break with a 12-3 advantage.
The Britons opened the second-half scoring but Hite and Molly Miller teamed up on the next draw control to score quickly for the Avenging Angels. Carlee Joseph controlled the draw, and Capretti netted a free position attempt in the same play to extend Meredith's lead back to 10.
The Angels controlled the next play, and Jennifer Halvorson netted her lone goal of the match. Albion would score just once more before the Avenging Angels drove in eight more goals for win.
Capretti led the Angels with four goals, while Hite and Pretty netted three apiece. Joseph finished with three points on two goals, one assist, adding four draw controls and three groundballs. Sarah Arbes tallied five draw controls with two goals, and Maria Codispoti notched four groundballs with a solo goal.
Albion's Lauren Weigand led the Britons with three goals, two caused turnovers, and four groundballs.
