Lacrosse Angels Cruise Past Pride 18-6 to Close Regular Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In Saturday's final regular season pairing, the Meredith College lacrosse squad cruised past the host Greensboro Pride 18-6. The two teams will face off again next Friday morning in the first USA South Conference Tournament semifinal.

The top-seed Avenging Angels pair with fourth-seeded Greensboro at 11 a.m. at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange, Georgia, Friday, April 14. Second-seed Methodist will face off with third-seed Piedmont in the 1 p.m. semifinal, and the winners advance to Saturday's 3 p.m. championship.

MC Lax scored the first 11 points in today's league match to take care of business. Julie Capretti opened the scoring unassisted, Sarah Arbes forced a Pride turnover, and Carlee Joseph finished off a pass from Molly Miller after the clear for a quick two-point lead.

Capretti found the net once more unassisted more than eight minutes later, and Jennifer Halvorson followed her lead after a Joseph draw control. Jordyn King found Joseph in the lane, and Miller and Halvorson paired up for back-to-back points to advance the Angels lead to 7-0.

Capretti scored her third, and Maria Codispoti netted a free position attempt in the 11th minute of the half. Joseph scored her third, and Julie-Anne Pretty found the net on a free position for Meredith's 10th point of the half.

Greensboro's Natalie Ritchey finally found the box for the Pride at 4:19, and Halvorson finished off the period with an assist from Holly Hite.

Second half scoring remained fairly even to leave the Avenging Angels with a 12-point advantage for the win.

Haley Whitfield earned her 14th win with three stops for the Angels, and Sydney Hardee recorded four saves in her eighth appearance in goal for MC Lax. Kianna Anderson earned the loss for Greensboro with eight saves on the day.

Joseph and Capretti led the match with four goals apiece, and Halvorson notched three with a pair of assists. Miller tallied two goals, two assists, and Arbes recorded four draw controls with two caused turnovers in the win.

Ritchie led with five points for the Pride.
