Tennis Opens Spring Season with 7-0 Loss to Elon

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Meredith College tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-0 loss to the Division I Elon Phoenix (3-2) Wednesday evening. The teams convened at Duke University's Sheffield Indoor Tennis center.

Elon lost earlier in the day to the No. 9 Blue Devils before sweeping Meredith.

Back to team practice for just one week with two days lost to snow, the young Avenging Angels squad now has two and one half weeks to prepare for their next outing. Senior Jacqueline Benton and junior Emily Wilkinson anchor the six woman squad with four underclassmen following alongside.

Returner Gillian Emerson was joined by newcomer sophomore Alexandra Cheney and rookies Elizabeth Johnson and Logan King

The Avenging Angels return to the court February 10 with a home court advantage versus the Viriginia Wesleyan Marlins.
