Pacers Hand Volleyball 3-0 Loss to End Victory Run

Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball Angels ended a 15-match winning streak with a disappointing 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-16) loss to cross-town rival William Peace. A hometown crowd helped the Pacers shutdown MCVB's attack percentage to its lowest since week-one.

WPU started the evening in control of the match and the Avenging Angels struggled to recover. Down 20-14 in the opening set, MCVB responded after a timeout scoring four of the next five points, forcing a Pacer break in the action.

Cathy Delano and Caroline Corey stuffed Sha'Nice Frazier on the next play, and Delanoe put down a blast from the middle to maintain the pressure. Back-to-back winners set the Pacers at set-point, but Meredith scored three more on a pair of kills from Avery Bowman and a third from Corey before WPU's Mya Parks ended the set in favor of Peace.

MCVB jumped off to a strong start in the second set with an early 6-2 lead, but William Peace responded scoring seven of the next eight to assume control again. Meredith added two but gave away three more to trail 13-9. MCVB refused to back down.

Ally Copenhaver landed a kill from the outside, and Samantha Smith served up a winner to keep the rally going. Corey and Delano combined for another block, and Delano added a kill from Bowman. MCVB held on through a score of 19-19, but back-to-back WPU winners edged the hosts back in front. The score remained tight, but the Pacers held on to the edge the rest of the way for a 2-0 advantage.

A deflated Avenging Angels squad struggled to gain any momentum throughout the third set, as William Peace managed a steady pace throughout the frame for the sweep.

Corey and Copenhaver led the Angels with nine kills apiece, and Delano and Haley Reeg notched six apiece. Bowman delivered 26 assists to go along with her three kills and 12 digs in her first career double-double, while Lauren Phillips led all with 23 digs.

Three Pacers led the match with double-digit kills, including the USA South's Volleyball Player of the Week Mya Parks with 16. Sarah Scott posted 36 assists in the win.

Meredith concluded their regular season schedule with tonight's loss and must now wait until the remainder of the league finishes this weekend. MCVB will finish no lower than second in the league's East Division to secure a home court advantage for the first night of USA South Tournament action Tuesday, Oct. 30. Stay tuned for tournament seedings and pairings.
