Lacrosse Angels Cruise Past LaGrange 26-3

Box Score

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- In the second match of the season, Meredith College lacrosse made easy work of the host LaGrange Panthers for a 26-3 victory. The Avenging Angels hold a slight lead in early USA South standings as the only team to play and win two league matches.

Julie Capretti led the match with seven points on four goals, three assists. Holly Hite went five-of-five for a perfect day at the goal and controlled a match-high 11 draw controls, just one off her career-high recorded last year versus LaGrange.

In today's pairing Meredith's Sarah Arbes controlled the opening draw, but her attempt at the net was stopped by the LaGrange keeper. The Panthers cleared the field and opened the scoring with a goal from Davida White. But the lead was short lived as Carlee Joseph scored four of Meredith's next five goals to quickly shift the advantage in favor of the Angels.

Meredith scored 10 more points to hold a 15-1 lead at 8:32. The Panthers found the net once more during the period, but Arbes recovered a ground ball on the next Panther attempt and finished the play with a goal. Hite ended the period with a free position goal to give the Angels a 15-point lead heading into the intermission.

Capretti dished out one-of-three assists early in the second period to rookie Rachel Argabright, and Hanna Anderson controlled the next draw. Jordyn King found Holly Hite for a score, and LaGrange followed with their third and final point in the next series.

Anderson netted back-to-back goals on her way to a career-high four goals on the day, and Meredith controlled four of the next five draws leaving little room for LaGrange to play to the net.

Joseph finished with four goals, one assist, and Anderson picked up four draw controls with four goals. Arbes controlled three draws with one goal, and defender Cameron Ruffin grabbed a pair of ground balls for the Angels.

Rookie goalie Joy Deitrich recorded the win as Meredith's starting keeper, and Sydney Hardee entered at the break to finish out the match. Panther Cierra Towe recorded the loss for LaGrange.

Meredith remains on the road but closer to home with a 4 p.m. pairing Wednesday, Feb. 21, at N.C. Wesleyan. Follow the live action HERE.
