ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Meredith College finished off the host N.C. Wesleyan Battling Bishops 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-20) in Wednesday night's USA South volleyball match. Senior middle Haley Reeg put up five of the Angels' 12 blocks to hold off the Bishops.

The teams battled a close fight through the first set, and the Avenging Angels managed to edge N.C. Wesleyan. Down by seven at 22-17, the Bishops rallied with a 5-0 run to pull back to within two until Caroline Corey interrupted the effort with a blast from the outside. Meredith held on for the win and a 1-0 lead.

Meredith gained some momentum with the win and jumped out to a 10-2 advantage early in the second frame. Wesleyan cut the lead to four at 15-11, but Avery Bowman dropped a second touch in the gap to give the ball back to MCVB.

Reeg and Bowman connected for a stuff, and Cathy Delano served up a winner to push the Angels ahead toward a set-two victory.

Both teams remained close early in the third frame until Corey landed a kill to launch a 5-0 MCVB run to take the lead for good. The Bishops would get no closer than three throughout the set, as Meredith finished off the sweep for their fourth consecutive victory.

Corey led all with 11 kills, adding four digs and a pair of blocks, and Reeg and Delano put up six kills apiece. Elisabeth Smith tallied five kills, while Bowman dished out a match-high 22 assists. Emily Skoglund and Lauren Phillips led all with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

Haileigh Riesenbeck and Kelly Ammons posted a combined 25 assists for the Bishops.

MCVB travels to Staunton, Virginia, this weekend for a USA South play day at Mary Baldwin with rival Methodist University.
