RALEIGH, N.C. -- With the return of cold, winter temperatures Tuesday afternoon, the Meredith College tennis Avenging Angels hosted Division II Shaw University in a non-conference dual. The seasoned Bears squad downed MCTN 9-0, but the Avenging Angels showed determination and strength down the stretch.
Sophomore Natalie Collins leads the Angels at no. 1 in both singles and doubles and gave her opponent Teodora Jovanovic some trouble. Collins battled for a 6-4 finish in set one and captured two games early in the second set before falling to Jovanovic. Collins with freshman partner Aly Henneberry played a tough duo at the top spot in doubles, scoring one point in the match.
Brittney Brown and Logan King scored a point in their doubles match at no. 2, and King earned a point in her singles pairing on court five versus Helena Fekete.
Meredith hits the road for the remainder of February through the entire month of March and returns home April 4 versus Greensboro. Next up, the Avenging Angels face off with Montreat College and Brevard this weekend.
