MC Lax Wins Two

RALEIGH, N.C. -- In the first of two weekend doubleheaders, Meredith College lacrosse won a pair of USA South Conference matches. The Avenging Angels downed LaGrange 21-2 before shutting out N.C. Wesleyan 22-0.

Rookie Olivia Blake led MC Lax with four goals, and Holly Hite collected a game high nine draw controls.

The Angels cruised to a 10-0 advantage during the first six minutes and went on to add five more before the visitors found their way to the net. Panther Davida White netted the first of two goals at 8:22 with Blake and Ansley Harris scoring two more for Meredith before the break.

Julia Doyle scored her third goal of the match to open the second frame, assisted by Brittany Wartman, and Caroline Butler found Maya Flake for a second at 21:21. White followed with her second, while the Julie Capretti kneeled in the penalty box.

Lilia Cruz scored her second goal late in the match, and Wartman finished off the scoring with a free position goal down the stretch.

Hite netted a pair of goals with one assist, while Olivia Higgs and Doyle netted three apiece. Higgs, Wartman, and Cruz forced a pair of turnovers apiece, and Crux grabbed six ground balls with Sarah Arbes recording three with two draw controls.

Joy Deitrich recorded her second win for the Angels with one save, and Haley Whitfield entered at the half to close out the match in goal. Aly Lord notched seven saves in her first loss of the season.

Cruz and Blake led the Avenging Angels with six points apiece, and Capretti notched five points with a caused turnover. Hite collected eight draw controls, and Arbes picked up four with a combined four goals. Defenders Wartman and Natalie Purcell moved to the offense, scoring on each, while Olivia Higgs and Doyle combined for six points.

Whitfield started in goal for the Angels to earn her third win, and Deitrich finished the match with three saves in through the second period. Bishop Millenia Crespo recorded four stops in her fourth loss of the season.

MC lax heads to Salisbury Tuesday evening for a 7 p.m. pairing before traveling south to face off with Lynchburg in sunny Florida Thursday to wrap up spring break.
