Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball program picked up a pair of conference victories during a USA South Tri-Match, hosted by Greensboro College, at Haynes Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Avenging Angels rallied for a 3-2 victory against the host Pride before battling to a 3-1 win against Pfeiffer.
In the first match of the day, the Pride jumped out to a two-set advantage before Meredith won each of the final three sets to pull off a 3-2 win (20-25, 26-28, 25-11, 25-21, 15-10). Six players finished in double-digit kills, including Lauren Bissette who registered 16 kills on a .500 hitting percentage and also finished with five total blocks (three solo). Avery Bowman tallied 12 kills, 28 assists and 12 digs for a triple-double, while Whitney Bolton recorded 11 kills. Madelyn Clark and Hailey Long each registered 10 kills in the win, as well. Bailey Lucas finished with 18 assists and also tallied 10 digs for a double-double.
Reigning USA South Defensive Player of the Week Lauren Phillips finished with a game-high 28 digs and also completed a double-double with 10 assists. Emily Emerson picked up 10 digs, while Hannah Jo Jablonski led the way with six service aces in the comeback victory.
In the match with Pfeiffer, the Avenging Angels dropped the first set before battling back with three-straight sets to pick up a 3-1 win (23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-19).
To cap off an astounding offensive output on Saturday, Bissette finished with a game-high 19 kills on an incredible .720 hitting percentage. For the day, she tallied 35 kills on a .604 hitting percentage with just three errors in over 50 total swings. On the nets, Bissette also recorded eight total blocks (three solo) and even registered as assist.
Long registered 10 kills as well, while Bolton picked up nine kills in the win. Bowman once again led with 27 assists followed by Lucas with 19.
Jablonski paced the team with 13 digs followed by Phillips with 12, while the team combined on 10 blocks.
Meredith currently sits tied for second in the USA South East with a 10-4 overall record behind a 4-1 mark in league play. The squad is tied with William Peace, whom it defeated earlier this season in nonconference action.
The Avenging Angels return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 5, against William Peace in Weatherspoon Gymnasium for a 7 pm start.
