Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Va. -- The Meredith College volleyball team solidified its spot in the USA South Tournament after splitting a pair of matches in a conference tri-match on Saturday.
The Avenging Angels started the day by extending their season-long win streak to 11 matches with a 3-0 win against N.C. Wesleyan before falling to Averett, 3-1, to close out the day.
In the sweep of the Battling Bishops, Whitney Bolton led the way with 12 kills, while Sara Dees contributed 10 kills. Hailey Long also tallied nine kills in the win.
Avery Bowman led with 19 assists and also picked up six kills, while Bailey Lucas registered 16 assists. In addition, Emily Emerson recorded four service aces.
Defensively, Lauren Phillips led the way with 13 digs, while Emerson picked up 12 digs and Bowman nearly completed another triple-double with 11 digs. Dees and Long eash finished with four block assists in the victory.
Against Averett, Lauren Bissette finished with 11 kills on .429 hitting and Bowman finished with 10 kills despite the loss. Bowman paced the way again with 19 assists, while Lucas picked up 16 assists.
Phillips led with 21 digs and Lucas tallied 12 digs as did Hannah Jo Jablonski. Bowman finished with 10 digs to complete her third triple-double of the season.
With today's results, the Avenging Angels clinch the No. 2 seed in the East behind the regular season champion Southern Virginia Knights. Meredith will now host the No. 3 seed in the East, William Peace, on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 pm in the quarterfinals of the USA South Tournament.
