Volleyball Wins a 5-Set Thriller to Advance to the Championship

The Meredith volleyball team won a 5-set thriller in the USA South Conference semi-final match Friday. The Avenging Angels, seeded #2 in the east, defeated the #1 seed from the west, the Maryville Scots. After dropping the first two sets 22-25 and 25-27, the Angels dug deep and won the next 3 straight with scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 15-10 to continue on to the tournament championship Saturday at 3:00 pm.

The Avenging Angels were led by Avery Bowman who notched her 5th triple-double of the season with 14 kills, 23 assists, and ten digs. 

Meredith's middles Sara Dees and Lauren Bissette also played a strong role in the team's offensive attack tallying 15 kills and 13 kills respectively. And libero Lauren Phillips led the backcourt posting 25 digs for the night.

The championship will be played Saturday, November 6 at Southern Virginia University. The host Knights will look to capture the title in its first year of Conference membership while Meredith will be seeking its third championship.
