Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College lacrosse Angels picked up their first road win on the season Friday afternoon with a 24-1 USA South victory over the N.C. Wesleyan Bishops. Thirteen Avenging Angels scored in the win with Maya Flake leading the team with eight points.
Meredith held a one-player advantage throughout the match and, in typical Meredith form, played a respectful, sportsmanlike contest. A shuffling of positions and a tempered attack led to just seven Meredith goals throughout the final 30 minutes of play.
The MC Lax defense held the Battling Bishops to four attempts, two per half. Winning goalie Joy Deitrich recorded one save in two shots on goal, and Madeline Horrell stepped in the box for the second half with one save. Bishop Devin Bautz earned the loss for the hosts.
Jess Dowdy joined Flake with four goals, while Tori Witmer tallied three goals, on assist, and Olivia Blake notched four points as well on a pair each of goals and assists. Arrianna May stepped in for two goals, one assist, and shared the match-high seven draw controls with NCW's Blaire Harley. Defenders Kamryn Muschette, Lauren Oliver, and Faith Gray each contributed to the offense, and Briana Petrusa led with three caused turnovers while recording two points.
Meredith hosts the Roanoke Maroons Wednesday, March 24, at 5 p.m. before returning to USA South play next weekend in Fayetteville. Follow live action of the games HERE.
