Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- In USA South action Saturday afternoon, the Meredith College lacrosse Avenging Angels downed host Methodist University 22-1. Olivia Blake notched five goals, and Kylie Phillips led all with seven points on three goals, four assists.
Meredith had no trouble knocking off the MU Monarchs as the Angels had four points on the board in the first three minutes of play. The scoring trio of Blake, Lilia Cruz, and Maya Flake teammed up for the next two, and Phillips recorded her third and fourth point with a goal and an assist for Briana Petrusa for Meredith's sixth and seventh goals.
With an Angel in the penalty box, MU managed to score their only point on the day in the 19th minute. MC Lax finished out the half 15-1.
In true Meredith form, Head Coach Lauren Scott slowed down her offense in the second period. Blake scored three unassisted, including one in a free position play, and Flake scored two with help from Arrianna May. Petrusa closed out the scoring with 12:10 left on the clock.
Flake finished four goals and a pair of assists, and Cruz and Petrusa joined Phillips with three apiece. Jess Dowdy and Cruz collected a game-high six draw controls apiece. Kamryn Muschette picked up two ground balls and was one of six Angels with a caused turnover.
Joy Deitrich remained in goal for the full 60 minutes, recording seven stops in the win. Jem Golombeski recorded the loss for MU, also with seven saves.
The Angels return to action Wednesday, March 31, in a second USA South pairing with N.C. Wesleyan.
