Match 1
Momentum shifted back-and-forth throughtout the conference match in today's doubleheader with both teams battling for control. With the score tied in game one on 13 occasions and no more than four points scored in one series, fans were in for a thriller. Lauren Bissette scored two points in the final four plays to give MCVB a 1-0 advantage.
The Pride opened game two with a 7-1 lead. Meredith used both timeouts as that advantage increased to 17-7, but MCVB refused to back down. An unforced GC error followed with a stuff from Avery Bowman and Whitney Bolton started to turn the tide back in favor of the Angels. Meredith went on to score seven of the next eight points to pull back to within three at 19-16 and stayed on the Pride's heels until the end.
With the score even at 1-1, MCVB came out swinging in the third for a 9-2 advantage, including two blocks from Bissette and Bowman. Greensboro finally tamed Meredith's attack scoring three in a row, eventually tying the game at 12's.
Bowman found Bissette and Bolton on the net for a pair of winners, and Kristen Leavel stuffed GC on the next ball for a 15-12 MCVB lead. Greensboro would put together one more 5-1 rally for a 19-19 score, but Meredith managed to find their way to a win.
The fourth game played out in a series of rallies for both teams, leaving GC on top to force a deciding set. With teams vying for one of only four spots in the divisional standings, set five was critical for both teams. But the Avenging Angels persisted and Bissette finished with back-to-back blows from the middle to finish off the Pride for the win.
Bissette finished with eight kills, five blocks, and Bowman tallied 14 kills, four blocks, 17 digs, and 13 assists. Hailey Long finished with a dozen kills with 15 digs, and Ally Copenhaver notched 14 kills, nine digs. Lauren Phillips topped all with 25 digs, and Bailey Lucas recorded 31 assists, 12 digs.
