LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Meredith College lacrosse dropped a non-conference match to the host Lynchburg University Hornets, 17-13, Saturday afternoon. Lilia Cruz led the Angels with five goals, and Jessica Dowdy notched eight draw controls.

MC Lax trailed Lynchburg throughout the first 30 minutes and closed the gap to just one before the break. But the Hornets opened the second stanza with three quick goals to break away 11-7 before Meredith Coach Lauren Scott called for a timeout. Cruz collected the next draw and Arianna May drove to the goal to interrupt the run.

Olivia Blake scored on a free position play six minutes later, and Cruz battled for the next draw control to maintain the momentum in favor of the Avenging Angels. But LU's Kelsi Trevisan earned one of her three leading caused turnovers, and the Hornets responded with a goal.

Five more Hornet points left the Angels trailing by seven with less than 12 minutes left on the clock, but MC Lax continued to battle. Cruz and May combined for three consecutive points, and Dowdy scored the final goal on the day unassisted with 3:35 left in the match.

Blake finished with four goals, one assist, and May and Dowdy notched two goals apiece. Ansley Harris and Kamryn Muschette joined Blake, Cruz, and May with one caused turnover on the day.

Joy Deitrich earned the loss in goal for the Angels with 15 stops. Lynchburg's Julia Broughton tallied three stops in her second win this season.
